Appeal for help

Detectives are appealing to garages, car bodyshops and mechanics in the Notts area for help in their investigation into a road traffic collision that left a 19-year-old man with serious head injuries.

The collision, which involved a cyclist and a car, occurred on Nottingham Road in Kimberley at around 11.20pm on Monday 1 June. The car failed to stop at the scene and the 19-year-old man riding the bicycle remains in hospital with massive head injuries.

Crash investigators believe a 1996-1999 registered Vauxhall Vectra was involved in the collision and have seized a vehicle matching this description.

They are now appealing to local garages, mechanics and bodyshops for help in tracing its movements between Tuesday 2 June and Sunday 14 June, as they believe the vehicle underwent considerable repair work in that time.

This includes the fitting of a new windscreen, bonnet, grill, and front nearside headlight unit, as well as a considerable amount of re-spray work on various panels.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who worked on a silver Vauxhall Vectra between these dates, anyone who knows where this vehicle was during the time it was off the road, and anyone knows where the damaged parts are now.

Police arrested a 26-year-old man on the night of the incident, but he has been eliminated from their enquiries. A 34-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man have subsequently been arrested and questioned by detectives. They are currently on police bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone who has any information which could assist in this enquiry, should contact Nottinghamshire Police’s Crash Investigation Unit immediately on 0115 9672225.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
