Medical TV is launched in the region

Doctors’ surgeries throughout Nottinghamshire are unveiling their own personalised television channels from this month, bringing vital health messages directly to patients in waiting rooms.

The one-stop-shop of information will be screened in almost 40 surgeries across the county, playing a 90 minute loop of local and national health advice.  Medical information on issues like diabetes and vaccinations will be on display alongside wellbeing advice, like the Change4Life campaign, which encourages physical activity.

The partnership between NHS Nottinghamshire County and the Life Channel will give surgeries a unique way of targeting the people who are in most need of advice - the patients.

Dr Chris Kenny, Director of Public Health from NHS Nottinghamshire County said: “Our key aim is improving the health and wellbeing of people in Nottinghamshire and this is a fantastic way of inspiring local communities through out-of-home television.

"We want everyone to live more healthily and the Life Channel will help to get the message across whilst patients are accessing NHS services."

The programming is aimed at a variety of audiences within the waiting room, from teenagers to mothers and toddlers, middle aged to older people.

It is predicted that the Life Channel is watched by over five million viewers each month throughout the UK.
