Have your say on County Council’s transport plans

More effective ways to tackle congestion, developing greener ways to travel to work or making public transport more affordable, are some of the topics Nottinghamshire County Council is inviting local people can have their say on.

The Council is currently developing its Third Local Transport Plan (LTP) which outlines a programme of transport-related measures that it will deliver over the short, medium and long-term.

People have until 18 July to have their say about what they would like to see incorporated into the LTP by completing a questionnaire, online or by post.

The purpose of this is to find out what people’s transport priorities are, based on the finding of the previous Local Transport Plan consultation which took place earlier this year.

Nottinghamshire County Councillor Richard Jackson, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: "We believe it is very important to give local people an opportunity to have their say and tell us what they put at the top of the transport agenda.

"At the beginning of the year we asked the public to tell us what they thought the challenges of delivering a transport strategy would be and the response was excellent.

"We want to take this further now and the only way we can gain knowledge about what the people of Nottinghamshire think is by collecting information from our transport questionnaire. I encourage people to get involved as their responses really count.”

The County Council's LTP will look at how it can tackle congestion and make journey times for public transport more reliable, accessible and affordable. It will seek to improve connectivity to train and bus networks, as well as developing greener ways to travel such as walking, cycling, car-sharing and using public transport.

The plan will also consider how good transport links can encourage local business regeneration and support areas of the county where the housing population and employment sector is growing.
