The Newark Men’s Basketball team have played their first two matches in the Mansfield summer league.
The first game saw them play a team from Derby with eight national league and two professional players. Newark gave a really good performance given the opposition, losing 70-36. Captain Andy Firth scored 15 points and Lou Coe added 11.
Last Thursday Newark faced Chesterfield and a failure to finish off straightforward chances ended up costing them the game, losing 46-43. Lee Shirley made an impressive debut with 10 points and Andy Firth added 11 including two from beyond the 3 point line. Lou Coe had an excellent game regularly outjumping his 6' 10 opponent and contributing 13 points.
Newark Athletic Clubs Gordon Welbourn week got off to a wet start last night at Farndon’s Riverside.
A near record 85 entrants, bolstered by a touring Australian rugby players set out on the three mile run.
17 minutes 46 seconds later Tom Phillips from Team Australia came home a very muddy first closely followed by Newark AC’s Howard Leek and Alex Langlands.
Rachel McQuiag was first lady home in ninth place.
Tonight the road show moves to the Grove Sports Centre for a four mile run around the sports field.
