*Boundary Sound have been informed the League are vetting five new clubs for the forthcoming season, Balderton WMC, Malt Shovel, Barkstone, a unnamed club from the Ollerton area and Chesters 2010. The latter club hope to reform from the side that dropped out of the Alliance midway through last season and is fronted by ex Balderton Villa manager Gary Taylor.
*Two current clubs AFC Flowserve and Vodafone have amalgamated to form AFC Vodafone.
*At the League’s annual presentation evening held last Friday Farndon’s David Issott won the Alliance Player of the Season Award while Matt Ridyard won the Division Three Secretary of the Season Award.
*In his last season as a Sunday morning referee Dennis Rawle was crowned Newark’s top official.
*The sun shone on Saturday and our cricketers enjoyed the weather,
* Balderton had a comfortable ten wicket win at Carrington, captain Andrew Jackson leading the way with 57 and overseas star Marlon Franklin taking 5-33 with the ball. Balderton remain league leaders.
*Collingham finally woke up in Division C with Hugh Pilkington hitting 95 in a 87 run victory over bottom club Kimberley.
*Andrew Duckmanton hit 77 as Farndon moved up to third in Division E thanks to a 89 run win at Marsh Lane over Hucknall.
*Top local scorer of the day was Alex Hemstock who hit 110 for Flintham in their victory over West Bridgeford.
*Newark where our only local side not to register a victory, Division D’s bottom club lost compressively to league leaders Thrumpton.
*This evening is the first in a series of five races that marks Newark Athletic Clubs Gordon Welbourn Week. The athletics meet at Farndon’s riverside for a three mile off road run. Registration is at the pub, everyone welcome. Find out the winners first on tomorrow’s sports bulletin.
