This was always going to be a close match between two sides in the top three of the Newark Alliance Premier Division (the first of three encounters between these teams over the next two weeks)

With both sides wanting to give nothing away they cancelled each other out for the first half hour although RHP made things difficult for themselves by giving away a lot of silly free kicks in dangerous areas.

The game woke up after 36 minutes when the first goal scoring opportunity went to RHP who hit the cross bar with an effort from Ben Haige. This woke up Farndon who responded with a Paul Cosgrove effort hitting the post.

Mark Everington was forced into making saves to deny Matt Roche both in the 60th and 64th minute to keep the score at 0-0. It was then Farndon’s turn to apply a bit of pressure on RHP and Jordan Mack put a shot wide when he was put through on goal after which a defensive block from Martin Wilson in the 70th minute saved RHP again.

In the 73rd minute the referee Mr Paul Butler was perfectly placed to give RHP a penalty and up stepped Matt Roche to keep up his record of scoring in every round to score his 6th goal of the competition. In the 76th minute a long throw from substitute Ian Hillier was headed into the goal by Luke Hutchinson to make it 2-0 to RHP.

Farndon responded to this by trying to try and claw their way back into this match and only a save low down at his right hand post from Gary Attwood and the woodwork again prevented them from getting a goal back which could have the made the last few minutes interesting.
