NLD Cup Final : 3rd in the 3 counties Cup
Newark went out on a high at the last NLD festival for the Under 12’s. The Under 12’s came within seconds of beating the NLD champions to go through to the final.
In the semi final of the cup against Nottingham A, Newark went ahead in the first half through Sam Noble with an awesome solo try.
Nottingham applied constant pressure with the Newark side standing firm on there own line.
Newark continued to defend stoutly against the strongest of Nottingham sides.
Then in the last second of the game Nottingham spread the ball across the pitch to score in the last second to draw the match.
As the try was scored the whistle blew. The match drawn at 1-1 went on tries scored in the group games and Nottingham were through.
Close, it couldn’t have been closer and the boys did themselves proud and their progress was evident to all.
Previous to the final the tough group games against Rasen and Derby A saw Newark score 5 tries and top the group.
The third place play off, saw Newark take on a hugely improved Southwell side. Southwell battled hard but Newark went on to win 15 – 5.
3rd place in the cup on the day was not a true reflection of the day.
Newark were within seconds of the final due to a massive effort by all players.
An 8 hour day for just over an hour of rugby isn’t easy, but the lads turned it on when they needed to.
Thanks to the parents and the lads that came to support their team mates on the day.
