Newark Ladies unbeaten league run continues

Ladies 1st XI - (1) vs. Beeston 3s - (1)

With just 3 league games left, Newark’s unbeaten season continues, after Saturday’s feisty contest with 3rd placed Beeston.

Beeston drew first blood on 10 minutes, against the run of play, when a stray pass across the circle, was picked up by the Bee’s centre forward, who coolly slipped it by Sophie Chambers in the Newark goal.

Just 3 minutes later the hosts were unlucky not to equalise when a trademark penalty corner strike from Jemma Gough, pinged back off Beeston’s right hand post.

Newark had the ball in the goal on 19 minutes, only for the goal to be mysteriously ruled out & changed into a penalty corner.

From the resulting penalty corner, justice was done as player of the match Sianne Robinson finished a well worked routine at the left post.

Although Newark created many chances, the visitors managed to hold on until half time.

The second half pretty much took the same format as the first, with Newark attacking & Beeston holding on.

Newark again had the ball in the visitor’s goal on 55 minutes only for the strike to be ruled out again for an alleged earlier infringement.

Although the hosts tried, that winning goal remained illusive & the league champions had to settle for a 1 – 1 score line.

Coach Paul Halfpenny commented “I am rather disappointed we did not take all 3 points, as we all thought it was well deserved, but the league is already won & the focus can now be on; remaining unbeaten, winning the cup & planning for next season”.
