Dare we mention the Hockey double?
Ladies 1st XI - (3) vs. Worksop 1s (Cup) - (0)
Newark progressed to the final of the Notts cup on Sunday, with a convincing 3 – 0 win over newcomers Worksop.
Although the visitors were a well drilled, organised outfit, they were no match for the league champions.
A combination of resolute defending & solid goalkeeping denied Newark a goal until the 27th minute, when Sianne Robinson finished a penalty corner move on the left hand post.
No more goals were added in the 1st half but just 4 minutes into the second half, Robinson netted her second, after a magnificent combination of passes through the centre of mid-field involving Sarah Pask, Sianne Robinson & Becky Taylor.
Worksop’s fate was settled on 45 minutes when player of the match Sianne Robinson unleashed an unstoppable shot, which deflected into the roof of the goal off a defenders stick.
Jackie Foulds almost rounded off a magnificent performance with a goal, but the umpire ruled out the effort, as he alleged the ball was not quite struck in the circle.
Newark now face Beeston in a mouth watering final, which will be held on the international water based pitch at Highfields, Nottingham on the 21st March.
