Scheme to help vulnerable adults
A workshop will be held to develop a scheme, which could help vulnerable adults access a wide range of services they may not be aware of.
The First Contact Signposting Scheme for Vulnerable Adults pilot will explore the services vulnerable adults may need.
It would be in a similar format to the First Contact Signposting Scheme which has helped nearly 4,000 people aged 60 and above, since its launch in September 2006.
First Contact is a referral service that allows the over 60’s to access a wide range of services and information such as benefits advice and guidance, housing advice,, practical services, keeping warm in your home, transport and falls prevention to name but a few, through one point of contact.
Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Energy Agency will co-ordinate the pilot scheme for 18 to 59-year-olds. If it is successful, it could be rolled out across the county.
Like the 60 and over scheme, professionals would be trained to complete a simple ten question checklist whilst visiting a client, saving time spent searching for the correct agencies to signpost a customer to, or spending long periods of time on the phone making referrals.
Chris Gilchrist, who manages Newark and Sherwood’s First Contact scheme, said this enables organisations to concentrate on their customer’s needs, and guarantees customers will be contacted by the agencies they are signposted to.
Chris added: “The workshop is intended for groups or organisations involved with vulnerable adults who would benefit from this scheme.
“We will look at a pilot scheme in Newark and Sherwood to provide a one stop shop signposting service for voluntary and statutory organisations, looking at what services can be provided and which organisations can provide those services.”
Anyone interested in attending the workshop from 10am to 1pm in the Carriage Court at Kelham Hall on Friday March 19 should contact Chris Gilchrist on 01636 655596 before Friday March 12.
