UPDATE: Date for bus station closure set
The date for the closure of the current Newark Bus Station has been set.
Nottinghamshire County Council has informed local business and residents of the plans to close the station on the evening of Saturday 29th May 2010.
The new bus station, along with the ASDA development, both hope to be open by December 2011, and will also include a new doctor’s surgery, primary care trust health centre, and housing.
Temporary arrangements will be made to relocate bus stops along Castlegate, Lombard Street, and a new shelters bus stop at the Wharf.
Included in the new plans are changing the flow of traffic on the Wharf to one way, with entry off Northgate, and exit close to Trent Bridge.
Permission was granted for the new development by Newark and Sherwood District Council in November 2008.
