Ladies 1st XI - (4) vs. North Notts 2s - (0

North Notts Outclassed

North Notts became the latest victim of Newark’s ‘well oiled hockey machine’, as they crashed 4 – 0 in a very one sided encounter.

It took just 70 seconds for Newark to open their account, when after a penalty corner was awarded Jemma Gough found her goal scoring form, smashing the ball by the motionless keeper into the bottom right hand corner.

The visitors game plan was, what could described as negative as they packed their own 23 metre area, making it difficult to create goal scoring chances.

On 26 minutes Newark finally increased their lead. Emma Wilson, fed Becky Taylor on the right wing, who cut in & played an exquisite ball to player of the match Trish Trafford making no mistake & giving the hosts a 2 goal cushion at the break.

The second half took the same format as the first with Newark camped in the Notts half.

On 46 minutes, Newark scored their third when a Trafford penalty corner strike was tapped home by Nicola Jenner on the left hand post.

Notts sealed their own fate when on 68 minutes, a poor defensive pass was intercepted on the top of the circle by Charlotte Mills, who calmly & swiftly moved towards goal & her disguised shot completely wrong footed the advancing keeper, to give Newark a 4 – 0 win & another 3 points.

Coach Paul Halfpenny commented “another dominant performance against the in-form 4th placed team & with Boots & Beeston both dropping points, we now sit in top spot 12 points clear of the second placed team.
