The award is presented in memory of PC Christopher McDonald, the Nottinghamshire Police officer killed in the line of duty in 1978, and recognises the important role of community officers on the beat. The judging panel will consist of Christopher’s mother, Joan McDonald, a member of the Command team, a member of the Police Federation and Chief Inspector Wes McDonald of the Communities, Youth and Race Relations Department. Inspector Tony Dennis said: “This is a very important award and we look forward to the support of local people to make it a success. Community officers play a vital policing role and this award offers the public a chance to recognise and appreciate their commitment to local communities.” Nominees will be judged on their ability and experience in community policing, involvement in crime fighting and anti-social behaviour initiatives, relationship with the community, evidence of problem solving skills and length of service. All nominations for the Christopher McDonald Community Officer of the Year must be submitted by Friday 23rd May 2008 to Rachael Green, Communities, Youth and Race Relations Department, Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters, Sherwood Lodge, Arnold, Nottinghamshire NG5 8PP. These should include a maximum of 200 words on why you are nominating the officer for the award. The nominations can also be emailed to cyrr@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk. Chief Constable Steve Green will also put the winner of the Christopher McDonald Award forward as Nottinghamshire’s nomination for the national Police Review Officer of the Year Award in London.
