FULL TIME RADIO STATION FOR NEWARK
(Back to news) NEWARK HAS A FULL TIME RADIO STATION AT LASTBoundary Sound is very pleased to announce that it has been granted a full time licence. After 7 month long trial broadcasts over the past 4 years, radio's governing body Ofcom, having considered the application, which was submitted in January this year, called general manager Andy Jackson to give him the good news. "I had to ask the lady from Ofcom to say it twice, and even now I still can't believe it." he said, "We have worked so hard over the last four years to prove that the community of Newark deserves a full time radio station, and now our dream has come true." The award means that the station can now broadcast for a minimum of 5 years all day, every day. The station is a not for profit organisation run by volunteers, and will commence it's final month long broadcast on 31st March. Station Manager and Director of Boundary Sound Matt Colbourne said, "It seems really strange to have to turn the transmitter off again after a month, but we have alot of work to do to get the station ready for full time broadcasting." A date has not been set for the station going full time. Director Michele Jackson was grateful for the help the station had recieved. "Our volunteers, founder members, sponsors and advertisers along with the Town and District councils have been tremendous. Local businesses have been very supportive and it is because of this we are certain of a bright future providing radio for Newark." Director Chris Needle was away on holiday when he got the news. "We are so pleased the hard work hasn't been in vain. We know that we have been professional in our approach and still managed to maintain our direct community link and focus." The station will be providing access to the airwaves for members of the community as well as training in presenting, producing, and ICT from their studios.
