Theatre handed grant to chart history

The Palace Theatre, Appletongate, have been handed a grant to help chart its history.

The £50,000 grant from the lottery will help trace the history of the theatre, from its beginnings at the start of the 1900’s.

The history of the theatre started on when it opened on July 5th 1920, after local Clark of the Works, Emily Blagg came up with the idea of a theatre in the town.

The theatre was handed to Newark and Sherwood District Council in conjunction with Newark Town Council in 1972 and has remained under its control to this day.
