People are concerned at the high volume of traffic here in the town – Before we look at parking prices and the lack of spaces, maybe we should consider other options of transport in the region?

I was joined on air by Gary Nolan, the MD of Stagecoach, who provide a significant bus service in the town. He pointed out that the busses are more frequent than ever, greener and much cheaper than using a car to get in to the town.

Also we discussed car sharing, bikes and walking as another means of cheaper transport.

There where mixed views on this one, ranging from those who needed the car for work to those who said there is no reason to walk around the town...

Here is a view that came through later in the programme

"My views on bringing cars into Newark are that we are charged far too much for road tax and think that with the amount of money it costs we should be able to use our cars wherever we want to, As for the congestion in the town centre it is mainly caused by disabled drivers parking wherever they feel like it cause they have got a badge in the window and nothing is ever said to them about it."

What do you think?

People are once again very disillusioned with politicians.
We need people to take a stand on issues that matter to them.

SUPER WARDENS ARE NEEDED
These super wardens with speed guns let’s give them licence to patrol proposed 30mph zones on Newark Roads.

Stop racing to work each day parents would like to take their Child to School savely please. I will welcome this as a parent; more powers will be most welcome.

Speed restriction is needed on our Road. These new wardens can help ensure that these limits are adhered to with the help of police and Councils in our area.

The introduction of speed cameras allied to other traffic-calming measures should be introduced in Newark Town. This will provided us with a road safety record that is right thing to do.

The success of strategically placed speed cameras, which could slow motorists down in Newark town for good.

Many are speeding each day to the misery for residents the increased number of vehicles in the area which is making families with children even more vulnerable than they are already.

These irresponsible motorists who double park on yellow lines and near Schools. I repeatedly called for tougher sanctions on safety grounds.

They should be able to hand out on-the-spot fines to drivers.
Let them also be able to arrange to have cars which are causing an obstruction towed away.

The police response to this problem should pledge this to all residents in Newark. Perhaps between them they will finally eradicate this dangerous and thoughtless practice for once and for all for the good of our once lovely town.

The high car parking charges in Newark town centre should be scrapped to regenerate the town’s retail fortunes. If they put half-a-per cent on the business rates and scrapped parking charges, I don’t think you’d see many retailers kicking up about that.

At the moment, it looks like a sustained attack on the cash of people who want to come and shop and work in Newark. At the moment, it looks like a sustained attack on the cash of people who want to come and shop and work in Newark. my remarks will sparked concerns that the high cost of parking in Newark town centre is driving shoppers to nearby town, where parking is free. We need to be attracting to the town centre more shoppers than we are attracting at the moment.

I believe that Newark and Sherwood DC must look at other ways of raising revenue, with the town becoming “almost a no-go area for people who have got cars. Hard-pressed workers are also increasingly feeling the pinch and: “Some are paying as much as £9.60 a day to park. Abolishing charges would leave them with more money to spend in town. I think if they had a moratorium for 12 months and scrapped parking charges altogether, I think the town would see resurgence. The evidence is that drivers resent paying. People and motorists will go elsewhere to shop.
Parking in Newark Town Centres, the British Parking Organisation noted that: “For many consumers visiting an out-of-town shopping location is becoming more attractive than visiting the nearest town centre shops. With all shoppers being forced to consider their spending now, even fewer will want to pay to park. The truth is that we must all start acting now at local level. Exploiting the "most vulnerable It discourages people algether in come to our lovely town centre.

What do you think? Would you come to the town centre more if you didn’t have to pay to park? Have your say below
