HERCULES CLAY SERVICE
Start: 07-March-2010 @ 11:15, End: 07-March-2010 @ 12:00
Parish Church, Market Square, Newark
Once upon a time, way back during the English Civil War, lived a man called Hercules Clay, he lived in the building which is now the Nat West Bank on the corner of the Market Square.
Whilst the Town was under siege from parliamentary forces Hercules had a dream on three consecutive nights, the dream involved his house being destroyed by fire after a cannon barrage.
Hercules moved his family out of their house after the third dream and the following day the dream came true.
Every year the town has a ceremony every year in honour of Hercules Clay who was a prominent businessman here in Newark and as such he bequeathed money to the Town to give thanks for the good fortune that beset him and his family.
Admission: Free
